The game board is a 4x4 grid of 16 spaces. The game begins with two tiles displaying the number 2 placed randomly on the board. Press the up, down, left, or right arrow to move the tiles on the board. Numbered tiles will slide across the board in the direction of the arrow, as long as spaces are open on the board.
When tiles of the same number collide during a move, they combine into one tile that features the sum of the two merging tiles. After every move, a new tile with the number 2 or 4 will appear in a random spot on the board.
The objective of the game is to get a 2048 tile on the board. This is achieved by combining two 1024 tiles that came from two 512 tiles, which merged from two 256 tiles, and so on.
The game ends when the board is completely filled with numbered tiles and there are no available moves.
